God has placed World Missions on the hearts of many people in the Vineyard. We consider it a particular privilege to carry God’s message of love and salvation to other parts of the world, which may otherwise never hear it. It is our desire to send out short-term mission trips each year, sponsor long-term missions, and send out long-term church planting teams from our body. Some of the places we have been involved are Central Mexico, the United Kingdom, Latvia, and Africa. We are also praying about working in other locations such as India. Currently we are working with pastors and church planters in Mozambique and South Africa for the spread of the gospel.

Central to the Great Commission of Jesus in Matthew 28 (see side panel) is making disciples of all nations. In the book of Acts we see the early church making disciples in the context of the local church. Disciples were made as they were saved through the gospel message then grew in their walk with Jesus through the teaching and care of the local church. When we think of missions we often think of the missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul in the book of Acts. In every one of those journeys Paul was working to establish and encourage local churches as the primary way of making disciples and fulfilling the great commission. In the Vineyard we believe that church planting is the most effective way that discipleship happens and, by Paul's example, is the focus of missions.

We see church planting as so important to discipleship because the local church is the de facto training center in the New Testament. Research has shown that vibrant local churches are the best place for discipleship because people build relationships and can grow over time and they are trained and benefit from the support and encouragement of the local church.

Since its beginning, the Vineyard movement has made the starting of new churches in the United States and around the world one of its highest priorities. The Superior Vineyard has joined the Vineyard movement in prioritizing church planting.  We believe that God has called us to be a large enough church in the twin ports to impact this area for Christ. Additionally, we are committed to planting other healthy Vineyard churches. We are currently working with 2 church plants and intent to plant churches of our own in the future in the coming years.

“Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'”
